Kizhi Skin Conditioning
An exfoliating, detoxifying skin conditioning treatment using specially selected herbal leaves or powders compressed into small linen bags and then dipped in hot, medicated oil and applied to the body. The ingredients seep through the bag and penetrate deep into the body to result in an intensive, heating and therapeutic treatment. The combination of three elements - a hot sizzling compress filled with the aromatic and medicinal properties of an exotic blend of plai, papaya, turmeric, coconut and tamarind; a body massage oil of ginger, fennel, vetiver, and clove; and the scrub from the muslin to brush away dead skin layers. The treatment leaves fresh, aromatic, soft, moisturised and detoxified skin.
Kizhi originates as an ayurvedic panchakarma (detoxifying) treatment, and is a commonly used technique in Kerala and Goa, India, where Steve learnt about the benefits and practice of kizhi. Also know as Pinda Sweda in Sanskrit - sweda meaning to sweat, this heating therapy is employed to relieve many problems, including arthritis, arthritis with inflammation, spondylosis, muscle pains, injuries sustained during sports or accidents, sciatica. It eases pain, reduces swelling, nourishes the body and improves blood circulation.
The treatment enlivens the skin, relieves aches and pains, promotes natural healing, improves circulation and increases the body’s energy flow. The herbal compress acts not only as a body scrub, but its inner held herbs aid relaxation and muscular relief.
A bonus with this treatment is that you can take away your herbal compress, and use it yourself in the bath and shower– it smells gorgeous and retains its herbal use for the next week or so.
